Why Nobody Sees Your Emails
Scared that sending too many emails to your business customer list will scare them off (or annoy)?
Let me show you something fascinating about email marketing that will forever change how you think about your sending frequency…
Let’s do some simple math together – I promise this will be eye-opening.
The Real Numbers Behind Your Email Sends
First, to make this easy (I’m not a “mathlete” so easy math is GOOD)…but let’s assume, for easy math, that you have a modest 20% email open rate (which is actually pretty good, considering the average across industries is only about 17%).
This means:
- Let’s say you send ONE email to your list with 1,000 people (again, easy math)…
- With a 20% open rate, that means only 200 people will even see it in their inbox
- Of those 200, let’s say a strong 10% actually read far enough to see your offer
- Now you’re down to just 20 people
- And of those 20, only 3-5% will click through to your offer
That means only 1-2 people actually clicked through to potentially buy something! Think about that for a second!
And here’s where it gets even more interesting…
The Fishing Lake Analogy That Changes Everything
Think about fishing in a vast lake for a moment…
If you cast your line at 9 AM, you’ll reach one school of fish.
Cast again to the very same spot, but at 8 PM…and you’re reaching an ENTIRELY different group.
The fish have moved.
They’re feeding at different times. They’re in different spots.
Your email list works exactly the same way.
When you get a 20% open rate today, and then another 20% tomorrow – here’s the crucial part – it’s likely different people opening each time. Not the same 20% as before!
Why Amazon Floods Your Inbox (And Why It Works)
This is precisely why Amazon sends so many emails. They understand three fundamental truths:
- Different times reach different eyes
- Most people miss most messages
- Consistent presence drives consistent sales
The Real Truth About Unsubscribes
After working with clients across multiple countries, I’ve seen this fear repeatedly: “What if I annoy my list?”
Here’s the truth: If someone unsubscribes because you’re emailing regularly, they weren’t your customer anyway. In fact, MOST customers actually want to hear from you (assuming you’re being helpful to them, not just smashing them with “by from me” messages, but that’s a topic for a different day). Afterall, at one point, your “stuff” was important enough to them to get on your email list – so don’t let them forget you!
Your Action Plan
Based on the math we’ve covered:
- Increase your email frequency (one a month, make it 4 times a month. One a week, make it 3-5 times a week. DAILY is the best tho)
- Test different sending times
- Track your results
- Focus on providing value in each send (this part is KEY)
Because here’s what matters: Whether you’re selling movie tickets or yachts, we all have different inbox checking habits and countless distractions competing for our attention.
The Bottom Line
Publish more. Post more. Email more.
You’ll make more money.
It’s not just theory – it’s math.

P.S. Still worried about sending too many emails? Remember this: Right now, odds are only 1-2 people out of every thousand are seeing what you have to offer. Can you really afford NOT to increase your sending frequency?
